Cruise control cancels on its own

Hey FitFreakers,

My wife and I use cruise control for 90% of our driving, both in town and on the hwy. We have a 5-speed manual. The modern cruise controls are excellent, as they will work all the way down to 25 mph, which is very useful in town driving to avoid nasty speeding tickets.

Recently, however, I was driving in a 40 mph zone and I put it into 5 th gear and set the cruise for 42 mph. It worked well, until a small hill caused the speed to drop to 40, and suddenly the cruise cancelled itself. Personally, I believe the computer must be programmed not to permit the motor to lug at low revs, so this was likely a safety cancel. Otherwise, our cruise has always worked like a charm.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I used to think my CC was broken until I realized the slightest amount of pressure on the clutch pedal would not let the CC engage. Hahaha I felt like an idiot when I figured that one out.

Hey Turboman,

Thanks for your input. I know that was not our problem....but you are correct.....keep your foot off the clutch while in CC.
