Group 26R battery works
Hi folks,
I'm new to this forum and new to forums in general. I have an '07 5-speed Fit and the battery died almost exactly 5 years to the day I bought the car. I found some info on this forum about using a 51R battery but after making some measurements decided against it. Instead I found the dimensions of the 26R to be a better fit for the fit as though it was meant to fit (sorry, got carried away). This battery is apparently used with larger engines in Neons and PT Cruisers. It's been in for a week now and all is working well. Not sure if I'm able to post a link but in case anyone wants to see it, here is a photo of the install.

Yes, I had to lengthen the top strap (you can see it in the photo) and the one on the front hooks well enough under the battery tray. Battery is holding up very well. I have also added a small 1 Watt solar panel on my dash wired in through the fuse panel. The idea is to constantly top up the battery from the normal current draw without overcharging. I hope to have this battery last the remaining life of the car.

Been thinking of adding a solar trickle charger as well, would definitely appreciate your advice.

I bought a cheap-o panel for $10 at my local Canadian Tire store. It's housed in plastic so it's very light. I believe it's called Blue Planet battery maintainer. I wired it directly into the fuse panel since the accessory outlet is disconnected when the ignition key is out. I modified a spade connector to fit in an empty fuse socket and I used matal foil tape to connect the ground wire to an exposed piece of metal. The solar panel current is so low the resistance of the ground connection is meaningless. Here are all the photos:
