Faster shifting?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for improving the shift speed without it feeling like you're grinding gears. I tried searching the forums, but mostly found that the trans doesn't like to be shifted quickly or that temperature affects the shift speed.

The delay valve in the master cylinder might be giving you problems.

Interesting, any suggestions for removing the delay?

Edit: further looking I don't think I have this on my car. I have a 2000 Insight, but with GD gear set swapped in. But I will look to see if there is something similar on the Insight, but I don't remember such device.

One fluid motion: Foot in at the same time as gear pull. If your timing is correct you'll be pulling your hand off the shift nob as your foot is coming off the clutch pedal. The timing on the foot press and release with the timing of the single motion to the next gear is the hardest part. When it's done right the clutch kick will keep the motor in vtec and the car will look like it has a DSG from the outside. If its done wrong be prepared to hear the heart wrenching sound of second gear not popping in.

With our cars, a short throw shifter can take out a lot of the slop as well.

Lot's of practice, I can shift mine pretty quick without issue, like stated above your foot and hand parts should start and finish at roughly the same time

Upshifting is fluid when your 2000 rpm or higher, downshifting youd have to learn heel and toe to shift fast,, i dont heel and toe,, i am on slight throttle downshifting to ease engagement,, its a hit and miss with my technique as i sometimes add too much throttle and id jerk the shift

I absolutely agree, heel-toeing/ rev-matching is a must for fast downshifting. It takes practice but is so satisfying once you get the hang of it.
