Replacement Key Fob Programming

Hello!

I have a 2008 Honda Fit Sport and love it. When I purchased the car (used) I only received one key & key fob.

Unfortunately, over the weekend my key fob broke open and the entire chip/center of the key fob fell out. I have no idea where it is. I now only have the hollowed our key fob & the physical car key itself.

I did some research to see if I’d be able to replace the key fob without paying my dealership an exorbitant amount of money and found information about how to pair a new key fob with the car for keyless entry. I also saw a note about still needing to go to the dealership to get the “immobilizer” paired- and whatever that means is beyond my realm of understanding. Do any of you have experience with this?

I’m hoping to replace the key fob so that I don’t need to manually lock & unlock my car every time I use it from here on out. Alternatively though, my car has 275,000 miles on it and I’m planning to replace it in the next 2-3 months. It’s not worth the 200$ dealership fee to fix this issue for me, but if there’s an easier way I’d do it in a heartbeat.

The immobilizer is the system that keeps the car from starting without a programmed key. Dealer or locksmith is the only way I know of.

The immobilizer does not allow PCM to connect negative side of fuel pump relay coil to the ground.
In theory bypassing the fuel pump relay may allow car to run (but fuel pump will keep running continuously as long as ignition is turned on.
More sophisticated method which will allow fuel pump to run only when engine is cranking (by starter) or running is to use older Toyota "circuit opening relay (COR)" in series with normally closed (negative trigger) relay wired to the oil pressure switch (on the engine block)
After doing so the low oil pressure light will be off, the immobilizer light will be blinking, engine may take longer to start, not to mention a wiring job...


When engine has no oil pressure the fuel pump will not run. During cranking the power to the fuel pump is provided by starter signal. After engine fires and oil pressure builds up, no current will flow through the circuit 86-85, resulting in continuity between contacts 87a and 30 (ground). The main coil of COR relay will be energized allowing operation of the fuel pump as long as ignition switch is on and engine is running (has an oil pressure)
Same system has been used on 85 Buick Century.
