Question broke valve cover bolt, how to replace?

I did my first valve adjustment (not sure I did it right although the car seems to have more top end power even though still clicks) and broke one of the valve cover bolts. I read somewhere that an M6 1.0 bolt can be used to replace but am not sure what length to use. Any help is appreciated. Oh, and if I could get an actual replacement part that doesn't cost too much that would be even better.

Thanks

How far from the surface did it break? (protruding or recessed)

It broke off at the threads (I had to extract it from the engine block)

When one of my coilpack bolts broke i just went to the junkyard and took a hand full of them. If you have some close to you id recommend that... they didnt even charge me for them
