Strange Air Con problem
Strange Air Con problem
Hi all,
I have a 2008 Honda Jazz (automatic) here in the UK. I just bought it about 1 and a half years ago, and a an air con issue seems to have popped up. It happens At low speeds or idle in drive, e.g. creeping forward in traffic or waiting at traffic light. The car seems to stutter (like a manual car does when stalling) and i have to turn the AC off. Its happened a few times, and one time the battery light lit up on the instrument cluster, although i had a new battery put in a year ago.
Is this a common issue in this generation of the Jazz/fit?
NB: i have a battery voltage checker, and its above 14v in idle, and drops to around 12 when the air con is switched on.

Hi there,
My problem was, during idle in traffic the revs were dropping to a point of nearly stalling, and restarting.
I have a 2006 GD1, my fix was bad coil packs. 2 of the 8 were replaced and the car is OK. However its still isnt perfect especially in traffic idle, with AC on, the load is heavy on the engine, my next job is to replace the a/c compressor clutch, as it is also noisy

I also agree the coil packs may be the best place to start because the symptom you describe sounds like a mis-fire I had on my car caused by a failing ignition coil pack that was made worse when the A/C was on. However, get good packs either from the Honda dealer or a name brand like Hitachi and check your spark plugs for proper gaps.
As for the battery light consider having the alternator checked. Depending on the auto parts stores near you they may be able to check it's output for you and while you're there have them check the battery too. The A/C system is a high load so dropping to 12v when it turns on doesn't sound too far outside the norm.
