1st Gen 1.5Vtec vs 1.3/1.4DSI?

Hi Guys, Jazz/Fit noob here but Honda old timer

I can get either a 1st Gen 1.5Vtec or 1.4DSI(also called a 1.3 but both have the same 1,339cc engine).
I noticed someone mentioning the 1.4DSI has great low torque which I found surprising on such a small engine but checking the specs that seems to confirm that:
The peak torque of 119 Nm arrives at 2 800 r/min, but 110 Nm is already available at half that engine speed.
The 1.5vtec has 143 Nm of torque but only at 4 800 r/min. I have a 1st gen CRV and one thing I don't like about it is the lack if cruising low speed grunt, it pulls like a freight train but you have to rev the hell out of it.
And how reliable is the 1.5 Vtec vs the 1.4DSI and how do the maintenance costs compare?
Seems fuel economy is a fair bit better with the 1.4DSI
And apart from the slightly daft looking body kit and the engine is there generally much else different on the 1.5vtec models either mechanically or cosmetically like cabin or spec upgrades or similar?
Thanks for reading and I'd love to hear your views on the above.

I own both a 1.3dsi and a 1.5VTEC. I lived with my GD1 1.3 since 2011. And I've always wanted more. Yes it can pull fairly well low down I've always wanted more from it. But it wasn't a good platform to do any mods to it to get more out of it.

I got my 1.5VTEC GD3 today. And heck. What a difference. I think the sheer amount of extra torque it has makes up for the fact that it peaks later. I'd have to check a dyno sheet but I am sure the VTEC pulls fairly similarly low down to the Dsi. If I were you. I would grab the VTEC. It's a far more engaging drive at stock. And if you do want to dabble in mods it's a better platform to fiddle with as well.

I looked at the torque curve and the 1.5 also pulls from low down, even though it peaks at higher revs it has more torque than the 1.3(same engine badged as a 1.4 in some countries) throughout the rev band so a better choice all round.

Also when it comes to reliability..... Its a Honda. Provided you service it at the correct intervals it will probably out live you and your gran-kids. My L13A1 Dsi on my GD1 has 22175kms on it. Ive only ever replaced the coil packs, outside of my regular servicing. I somehow had them water damaged.

As for my GD3. Well I only got it last weekend. And 120000km on the clock and it sounds and runs great.
