2006 Honda Fit Ignition Help!

I seriously know nothing about cars and if somebody can give me insight on what the problem could even be it’d be a big help. The quotes I’ve gotten for fixing the issue make me consider just getting a new car at this point.

I have a 2006 Honda Fit automatic. I had a main key I was using for years, it started giving me issues and would not go into the ignition or turn once in there. I’ve been using my spare key for another few years now and the past week and half it started giving me the same issue but was still useable. A friend tried to help and put some WD40 in the ignition and now it’s way worse 🙃
I can’t even get the key in, or if I do, it doesn’t turn and is incredibly hard to get back out. I tried my original “bad” key and now that one actually goes in a bit smoother but still will not turn.
It sounds like one of the pins(?) inside the ignition gets stuck when I try to put the key in since I can hear it aggressively click past something. Could this mean they’re not lining up correctly and that’s why it’s not turning? I’ve done like 30 mins of googling so this is about the extent of my knowledge and I’m sure I could very likely be wrong in my thinking.

Is there anything I can do to try and fix this problem on my own? Am I screwed and need a new ignition? I’ve been quoted $800-$1400.
Would trying a new key be worth it at all?

Thank you for any help somebody can provide!
