Broken motor mount 2008 Fit Automatic--motor swap? Pics attached
Hi everyone. So i have a problem with my '08 Fit. The motor mount on the passenger side of the vehicle recently broke and the whole motor shifted down a few inches. Normally this wouldnt be a huge issue, but it looks like one of the threaded holes that bolts onto the block snapped clean off. I've attached pics. So if i replace the mount, the bolt closest to the firewall won't have anywhere to go. I thought maybe I could just replace a valve cover but unless im mistaken, that's the actual block that broke. So my question is, will i need to either swap the motor/rebuild onto a new block? Or is there a better way?
I'm an apprentice auto tech with access to an engine jack and stand and would be able to work on it after hours so if i did need a new motor i would only have to pay for parts. Vehicle has less than 100k on the odo and the engine itself and chassis is in pretty good shape, so i'd hate to junk the car. Bolt for the bottom one still in the hole, top is sheared off There's no longer anywhere for the top bolt to thread into
This calls for a timing chain cover replacement
need an impact and special tool to remove and PROPERLY install back the crankshaft pulley bolt as well as oil seal and water pump
The engine oil pan stays in place
Use TOYOTA (yes) black FIPG sealant for reassembly , don't take your chances with Permatex or gray Hondabond.
I'm not sure if the busted piece bolts on or not. I can say that my motor mount broke about 2 years ago on my 2010. As doctor J stated, I too needed and timing cover replacement. Seems to be a standard thing. In my case, the bolt(s) just sheered but the motor mount took almost a month to arrive and only after I called the factory to complain. Had I not called myself to the factory, it would have taken another 2 weeks on top of the month to get it. I was pissed.
While talking to the factory, I asked about an after warranty coverage and the factory paid 60% of the repair bill of about $1k USD. The Dealer had to apply for it but it worked out well for me.
taking the underside nut close to firewall is a tedious tack; calls daily application of penetrating-fluid for 5 days before work attempt as well as using deep socket with swivel extension.
PS water pump pulley has to come out, not entire pump
