Front Motor Mount help

Hi all, for about half a year I've noticed some clunking noises while starting out from a full stop but only every so often. I'm thinking there's something wrong with the motor mounts. Is there supposed to be a nut screwed on top of that short bit of the bolt sticking out(or what looks to be pulled out from bottom). Please let me know what your thoughts are. thanks, Andy

Here's the pics shown directly on the forum:

From what I can see is that you have a broken bolt. The last picture should show that nut up in contact with the bracket of the cylinder head.

The support bracket also appears to be pivoted from where it should be. Mine is definitely different and doesn't show the gap in the 2nd and third pics.

I can't say I know much about the mounts, but it kinda looks like the spot where the bolt is supposed to go, might be an open slot (like the open end of a wrench), and the bolt slipped out. Based on the last picture anyway.

Its either that or someone took the bolt out, slid the mount over and put the bolt back.

That's my guess.

It looks like the metal that wraps around the bold has broken, and the bold/mount has shifted out of place.

thanks guys. Not sure exactly how that happend. Possibly pothoes and the rough gravel back roads I commute through. I might go ahead and order me a new mount unless you guys may know of any on aftermarket.

Unless I'm looking at this wrong, the side mount may or may not be broken but the aluminum "bracket" on the end of the engine definitely is, the right side of the engine is pushed back and the top of the side engine mount is rotated back, hence the gap you see where aluminum should wrap around the bolt. Whether that is part of the head (really really hopefully not) or part of the timing chain cover I can't tell.

How many miles? Has the car been in a collision that you are aware of?

now that I'm NOT looking at the pictures from an iPod... that definitely looks broken (especially the one hollis circled).

That's not going to be a pretty repair. ($$$) ouch.

edit: looking through Minisushi's past posts... I'm thinking the previous owner had an accident with the car, then repaired and sold it. That mounting point may have been cracked or severely fatigued by the accident. Then after some rough roads, completely broke off.

One way or another, I think this has to be dealt with... I'm imagining the engine literally falling out.
