BEST LED Headlights with DRL function!

Hi Fit Forum,

***Note - please ready the full thread... while great at first, unfortunately, after a week of use they began to flicker really badly. So I returned them and went back to halogens. The only other option I found that should work is the Morimoto 2 Stroke 3.0's, but they are pretty pricey. Check out the details in a reply of mine below.***

Original Post:

I've spent countless hours researching and trying out various LED headlights on my wife's 2008 Honda Fit. I've tried a couple of 9003/H4 LED headlights, including the Philips Ultanon and Sealight, and while both were great in low beam and high beam function, neither was compatible to have the DRL continue to work (which uses the high beam at a lower voltage). Most LEDs aren't capable of functioning with a lower voltage. However, I just came across a great product that has solved this problem! So I want to share this with others who have run into this similar problem. Here are the two products you'll need:

https://www.hidvisioncanada.ca/led-k...light-kit-new/
https://www.hidvisioncanada.ca/led-k...gler-2pcs-new/

Customer service was outstanding and so far I'm really impressed with the product.

And here are some pictures for your reference, including high beam, low beam, and DRL...

Unfortunately not. I searched there too. These are unique because they can operate at a lower voltage for the DRL function. Everything else will likely work with low and high beams, but not DRLs.... which are required by law in Canada. Do you happen to have a link to what you're talking about? In my experience, you get what you pay for. And with Honda Fit's reflector housings, it's worth paying more for a proper LED that doesn't scatter the light and blind oncoming traffic. But good luck with Ali Express.

Hey,

I'm facing the same dilemma with all of the 12v+ LEDs with my 03 CRV. DRL causes only one light to come on and flicker. Do these flicker at all? Any warning lights? Are you able to provide night time photos with the DRLs, low beam, and high beam? Just want to see how the cutoff is so I'm not blinding others.

Cheers,

Hey 03CRV-YYC,

When posted this right after installation and they worked great. However, within a week of use, they started to flicker pretty badly. They flickered a little fairly constantly, and then whenever the fan kicked on and off the headlights would flash very intensely. I was really optimistic after all of my searching, and initially, they seemed perfect. However, even with the decoders they continued to flash. I returned them and went back to halogens. I would no longer recommend this option.

In my searching, I did find one other option that would work for the gen 1 honda fit. The Morimoto 2 Stroke 3.0 & Anti-flecker Harness. They are super pricey, but I'm quite confident they would work based on the way they are designed and in confirming with the manufacturer. Unfortunately, I just couldn't justify the cost at ~$260 USD. Here's a link for you:

Good luck!

thank you for the update! I was thinking of doing this mod in the spring. The halogens really suck. I’m not going to do some big change like install projectors but I would really like to improve the headlights.

I bought the same exact LED bulbs from HID Vision too (H4 9003 6V). Testing them I get the flicker when the DRL is on at 6v, no flicker yet during low beam/high beam usage at 12v. I've bought the pair of anti flicker decoders too, waiting on those to come in to see if that solves the DRL issue.

How was the return process for the decoders and LED bulbs? Pretty straight forward?

I've come across the Morimoto LED bulbs too, and agreed, the price point is too high at the moment.

Back to halogens...

Headlight upgrades 2008 Fit

I have again severely fogged lamps and really need better lighting. Had them sanded, polished 2 1/2 years ago for $55 and no surprise, car is out in California sun all the time, they need a solution again.
Are you saying that these LEDs have a built in DRL function? My 2008 (American) has no automatic DRL.

1. I am considering refinishing lenses again and replacing the bulbs with Halogens. Which do you recommend?
or
2. Purchasing replacement housings with halogens such as the Evan Fischer

Another thread mentioned LDE Novasight. Given the puny battery, and the additional heat from the LED bulbs, will this cause a problem?

rpsf:

You mention concerns about lack of power from Honda's puny battery. Do yourself a favor and replace the stupidly pricey tiny proprietary Honda Fit 151R battery which only has 330 cca and go with a 26R with 540 cca. Only minor mods needed to install it. Here is a link to previous FitFreak postings.

My cheapie Walmart EverStart 26R is now on it's 9th year and still tests good with a 100amp load tester. I think it's lasted so long because it's seriously oversized. I drilled a new hole for the rear hold down J clamp about 1½" inboard of original hole. This allows the battery to be centered in the tray and has the clamp bar running between the two battery cell caps. Measure before drilling. The front J clamp just slides over that same 1½" and hooks under battery tray. I also installed a spacer tube about an inch long to avoid having to spin the rear hold down nut forever. For some reason the rear J clamp rod is way too long on my '07 Fit Sport.

After sanding my cloudy yelllowed headlamp lenses with increasing grit wet 3M sandpaper starting with 600-800-1000-1500-2000 then headlight restorer liquid compound and a cloth buffing wheel, I sprayed with "Plexus" headlamp lens UV protectant and the repairs have lasted several years here in NY. When changing sanding grits keep alternating x and y axis rubbing motion so you can tell when you are done and previous sanding marks disappear.
