My current set-up is 175/65 R 14's
I recently had a set of brand new Toyo Go-2 205/70/ R 14 Winter Tires fall into my lap,
From my research the most common answer to the question of what is the max tire size for the Gen 1's is 205/55/ R16's, these two are almost the same size
So I have searched this forum and a few other places, any definitive answer to whether these will rub
I'm not so worried about acceleration or mileage variance, just wear and tear issues?
I don't have a GD Fit, but I will suggest that it might be more useful to compare to the tires you currently have on your car.
That's a pretty big difference in height and width. I wouldn't try it, mostly because I wouldn't want to sap my acceleration, change my change my braking and handling characteristics, and throw my speedometer and odometer off. But, you've suggested that you're not worried about that.
In terms of fit, remember that only half of the height will be in the wheel arch. So, do you have a bit over an inch of clearance around the perimeter of your tire inside the wheel arch when your car is fully loaded (plus some extra for suspension compression)? Similarly, for the width do you have a bit over an inch of clearance from all suspension components on the inside of your current tire, plus a bit over an inch of clearance from the fender lip on the outside of your current tire, in particular the front tire when turned?
If the answer to all those questions is yes the new tires will probably fit.
