Looking for tips and lessons learned also…

Hey yall, I recently adjusted the valves and somehow mucked it up and now the valves are making MORE noise then they were prior to my attempt. So that being said I'm going to go back in there and fix my mistakes. While I was in adjusting them the first time I noticed a tiny bit of play in each of the valves. What is the protocol for this? Do I pick it up and then put the feeler gauge in? Or leave it and slide the gauge in?
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for how to make this job as accurate as possible?
Also, it has been about 1500 miles. Do you think I should replace the gaskets again?

And any torque wrench recommendations would be great. I had a Pittsburg wrench but am afraid it has gone out of spec. Not looking to break the bank but would be interested in buying a more reliable wrench.

This is beyond my limited mechanical ability but I feel like this might be a reliable source to use (from Haynes):

I really like these Haynes videos - at least the ones I’ve seen. Way better than just referring to the physical copy imo
