Rusty axle — recall?

I noticed on my ‘08 that the driver's side axle has the paint peeling off near the end by the cv boot on the wheel side. Pretty rusty under there…

Saw there was a recall for some cars but mine's not on the list — anyone know if dealers are open to inspecting if not on the list? Pretty sure my car was originally from an affected area based on the carfax.

Rust on metal parts is pretty much inevitable if you have winters where you live, it's not necessarily dangerous or failing.

I'm guessing but I think the dealer wouldn't mind inspecting it, to sell you a replacement if nothing else Worth trying it though!

I realized after I posted how ridiculous I sound… but here’s the recall page. Hopefully my axles will last awhile longer…

Yeah I know about the recall

What I'm trying to say is that if your car isn't on the list, it's probably fine, because some rust is normal. There was apparently a specific design used on some cars that that failed. Do check it out though to be sure though.

Why did you even bother to answer? Apparently a lot of axles have broken… the probably part is my favorite, thanks!

The only thing you can try, besides replacing the axles at your expense, is to get the axle(s) replaced as 'good will repair' (free or discounted price) and def have to start at the dealer and it may include talking to a Honda rep. I found this number in my manual 1-800-999-1009.

If you have to replace the axles get OEM if possible. My friend had to replace an axle and he got an aftermarket reman unit and he had a vibration. He returned it and got an OEM axle from Honda and the vibration was gone. His car was eventually covered by the recall and he was reimbursed. Let us know how it goes.

Sorry, you seemed to be pretty concerned and I tried to give some context surrounding the recall issue. A lot of axles have broken that were affected by the recalled defect. "Probably" is because nobody can tell you with 100% over the internet, especially without seeing the vehicle.

Have you resolved this somehow in the meantime?
