Axel Recall - Help?

Hey all,

New here, 09 Fit Sport. Last year, the left CV axel shaft snapped, and I had both replaced by my mechanic. Cost was about $680.

I took it into the DEALER today for a state inspection, and learn that it was a known recall. However, they said this had after market parts on it (the fix I did) and thus they could not fix - and I couldn't get my money back.

Any thoughts? Is there a justice system that I could get reimbursed for via Honda directly?

Correct. You can't do your own factory recall fix with aftermarket parts. You have to get those done by a dealership or certified repair shop. And only using genuine Honda parts.

Did Honda send you a recall notice about your axles? If you do a search on this forum, there's lots of posts about broken axles and the Honda recall. If you owned your car during that time frame, lived in the US rust belt and didn't get the recall notice, it seems you might have a case with North American Honda for some type of refund. It seems it would depend on your documentation- if you kept receipts and pics of the repair, it would go a long way towards proving your case for a good-will refund by them.

Not all states got notices, but the affected rust belt states were the targeted states for the recall. In some cases only one axle was replaced under the recall, and others got both axles replaced. The most affected axle was the axle with a rubber vibration damper mid axle. I believe that was the driver's side axle. Rust would form under that damper and a lot of axles broke there. If I'm not mistaken, I believe this was a National Safety Recall, and Honda was mandated by the US Federal Government to make the recall for safety reasons.

There's some useful info in the "related topics" section located under this thread on this page.titled: 2007-13 Fit Driveshaft recall in salt-belt states.
