Hi all! I am new here, I have a 2008 Sport. Posting mainly seeking advice on replacing the windshield wiper linkage but also want to give others a heads up on what I am running into trying to replace this part. Getting the old one out was tricky as the design for that area is super tight. The only part I can find is Dorman brand which was impossible to get it into place. A mechanic friend tried and found the left end connection was sequenced wrong and corrected it. He was able to get it in then (barely) but then found the back arm rubbed on the body when put to use. There is a slight curve in the original that was not in the Dorman part as shown in pic below, OG part is on top. I will be checking with Honda next for a OEM part, although I fear the price! I did notice that one seller on Ebay had a Dorman part that looked different, darker colored and curved more like the original, but have no idea if that is what they would actually send. All other sellers with the part number show a pic of the one I got.
The second picture is the arm that is malfunctioning, the circled parts popping out of joint easily. Anyone else run into this issue? Suggestion on what to do?
Aftermarket assemblies do not fit, please save frustration and go OEM. Removing the cowling is the hardest part , no prying tools on windshield! These screws require #3 Phillips bit and installed with blue Locktite. (Applying solvent may help)
I had that exact issue. One of the arms looks bent so that may be the source of the problem but in my case it was the plastic cup that fits over the ball joint. It has little plastic tabs that become brittle. One of the tabs on mine broke off so as soon as I would start the wiper motor it would just pop right off.
I also noticed that the ball joint had a bit of corrosion on it and it was likely scratching up the little plastic cup. I sanded the ball joint and progressed to very fine grit (2000) to get a polished and smooth finish. I went to the junk yard and picked out about three different wiper linkages and the clerk let me have all the parts for the price of one set (15$).
I cleaned the parts, applied grease and the rest was history. PS, the assy is a bitch to put in until you figure out that you can push the assy deep into the driver side fender, then slide it in behind the engine, then Into place. Easy peasy.
