First Maintenance Minder @ 5400 miles - normal?
First post here - great forum. I've read on here that the maintenance minder is dependent on your driving conditions. However, I'm curious if 5,400 miles is typical for the first time (15% oil life) Thanks

My first was at 8,586kms, which is similar (~5,300 miles) to yours.
Like most commercial/industrial engine manufacturers, Honda seems to use a combination of time and fuel burnt to calculate oil change intervals. My minder comes on every ~750 litres (~200 US gallons) of fuel burned with my normal driving habits. I change it when it gets down to 5%.

I changed mine around 4.5K but my father-in-law's light came on 7.*** k. I was like WTF! He took it to Honda and they said it wasn't an issue. It really depends on how you drive the car. The ECM bases is off the rpms I believe. As long as you aren't driving like a jackass then it should easily last to 5k. My light for the last oil change didn't come on until right at 11k.

So do you guys all just change when the light comes on? Cause I was thinking of starting to change it every 3k miles, but most cars these days can run alot longer anyway. But yeah, I can say the same with mine, I'm just over 10,000 miles and i'm not even at my second oil change yet. 30% life left supposedly...

Obviously, the harder you drive the car, the sooner the percentage drops. My OLM light came on at 81-- miles and I had it changed at 84--. It's at 136-- right now, with 50-41% oil life, according to the OLM. I think that the slushbox transmission does make a difference, since my highway rpms are lower. I checked again the other day, and 80 mph (on the GPS) comes in right at 3000-3100 rpm. 100 mph is right around 3600-3700 rpm in 5th, or a little over 4000 in 4th, with the AT.... and I still got 38 mpg on that tank.
