My wife owns a 2007 Honda Fit. Today we were driving to work and we heard what sounded like metal dragging on the asphalt. The sound wasn't constant, it would come and go, very inconsistently. When she dropped me off we looked under the car and there is nothing even close to dragging on the ground.

Then she called me to tell me that while she was driving to her work, she heard what sounded like something falling off or breaking off (she couldn't see anything in her rearview mirror and couldn't stop in the middle of traffic) and then the sound became constant. She looked under the car again when she got to work and nothing is dragging.

A couple people here at my work suggested it could be the oil pan cover coming loose and hitting the underside of the car. Could there be anything else?

Hmmm...maybe the brakes? Have the pads ever been changed? Might be the caliper dragging on the rotor....

With what your describing I dont know though...worth a check.

Oh and the pads have never been changed. I know it depends for every vehicle, but would pads need to be changed so soon?

 

How many miles are on the car? I remember reading a thread about how they seem to ware uneven and its a problem, but Honda has yet to address it
