Yep, the specific chassis code is characters 4-6 of the entire VIN.
The first three characters on the VIN seem to refer to the factory where the car was made. FYI.

The VIN is stamped on the engine firewall, just under the windshield.
Be warned though, the GD Fit's firewall slopes away from you (given you're standing in front of the car looking at the windshield with an open hood) so it's a little hard to see. But it should be there.

Still wondering what the OP was asking... It's a GD3. Yes, many 2008 model year cars were built 2007 if that's what you're asking. It used to be that most of the manufacturers released their 'next model year' cars for sale in September of the previous year. Now, it isn't uncommon to see next year's cars in April.
