Tomorrow I am cancelling my apointment. They were going to fix the ebrake and get the furniture repair man to fix the dash.
I am going to tell them I want a new dash plus the piece that surrounds the radio. That is also slightly scratched and I don't want the ham-fisted ape working on it.
I also sent an email and pics to the GM of the dealership. I have yet to send anything to Honda Canada.
The rattling the radio makes is driving me nuts though.

friends and business never mix well. I would rather just pay a friend then expect the same quality for free.

yeah,,,,those american dealerships just rock huh!
this is an isolated incident that i can tell, my 96 civic is revered with pride at the dealership. the only beef i got is that the parts are waaaay over priced. but they are built alot better...albeit if they are installed correctly. sorry dude, get them to fix it right and get with his girlfriend...thatll do it.

[quote=ricohman;669246]My Fit has been trouble free except for the clock which gained about 10 minutes a month.
So I took it back to the dealer for the first time ever in over a year.
They replaced the stereo/clock. But they busted the heating controls. And the radio they put in had missing paint.
So I had to take it back. They put in another radio but they busted the plastic around the ebrake.
And here is the kicker. The butcher used a screwdriver to pry the radio out of the dash! I now have 5 or 6 big ugly hack marks to stare at.
The entire center stack is now rattly and loose. A bolt dropped out onto my feet and some of the rattling disappeared.
I took it back to the dealer and they ask "what do you want me to do?"
I want them to replace the entire dash (which is one piece)!
However, as a mechanic, I know that replacing the dash is a nightmare and that the car would never, ever, be the same.
So they said they know a furniture repair dude who can glue/mold some colored filler into the hacks on the dash. This will never last in -45 to +60C that the dash reaches. And it will fall off in a few months!
My car has 10 000km. I am so pissed.
I am tempted to ask for cash compensation.

Couch potatoe?
I cycle to work daily and usually do about 8500km a year, with one long tour and many centuries and double centuries.
I hit the weights 4 times a week and run 30-40km weekly.
I take it that you do a lot more..............
Parts are on order and they will fix it. The post is about frustration that some a**hat thinks it is ok do perform work like this.

Hm, I've had fairly good times with my Honda Dealership, but that's only because I'm good family friends with the owner of it.. >>;

Regardless though, I removed my entire center console yesterday to install blue LEDs and even I, a 19-year-old kid who's never tinkered with a car in his life, didn't scratch up my console NEARLY as much as that guy did. Sure I blew a fuse, but no big deal with that.

When I removed my entire center console, there are two REALLY hard to reach screws (that look a lot like the screw you have...) that I had to remove to get the console out. However, since when I removed the console I didn't ROYALLY **** the fastener clips like your dealership did - I didn't even bother to re-install those screws and it still fits just fine with no rattling. I guarantee if you have them remove the radio console, you can look at all the plastic clips on the side of it - they will all be shattered. That's what is causing the gasp and rattling.

Good-luck though man, it's not Honda's fault though - it's that worthless dealership.

Boy, good luck. I hope it turns out alright. Personally, I've never seen work done like that before.

And to those bagging on Honda dealerships, let it rest. Honda is just like every other massive corporation. They are everywhere and have tens of thousands of people working for them. Expecting every single employee to be perfect is unreasonable. Now, I'm not saying that work is excusable, but you can't let this event make you stop purchasing Honda. It's be like never eating at In-n-Out again if you had a slightly bad experience.

Yes, the dealerships are outrageously overpriced on many things, but where else are you going to go if you need to get work done that should be high quality, and more importantly, FREE?

My dealership offers free internet while waiting for your car to be serviced. It's the best.

Just the mention of a furniture guy gets my blood boiling.
If they have a body shop on site, those guys would be half way qualified to replace the dash properly without damage. There are certain plastic tools used for clips and dash tools to keep from damaging/scratching stuff. I guess the mechanic reached for the closest screwdriver. He needs one put thru his head!

Well, I got the car back.
But there are a few glitches.
The first is the dash itself. It seems discolored at the top where the smooth light grey meets the pebbled surface. It is shiny in spots and flat in others. It looks very bad in some lighting conditions. The dash is also scratched as well. The instrument hood has a few gashes and the clear plastic over the instruments are scratched up pretty bad.
I took it back and the service manager took it to their detailer and was told the dash is discolored from the factory that made it. There is nothing he can do except replace the dash again!
The scratched pieces seem pretty easy to replace but I don't want the dash out again. Yet I don't want to look at this POS for 4 or 5 more years. The other Fits on the lot don't look like this. Here are a few pics.

The explanation is simple; The Dealers are not all bad but most Technicians are cry babys(I know I'm one of them). You came in with a warranty clock that does not pay anything on the time sheet so the Tech cried & the goofy Service Writer passed the job to an inexperienced Lube Tech that did not know how to remove the radio & TADA that's how you got the gouges & crappy work. SOLUTION = Speak with the Service Manager (Not a Service Writer) & tell him the problem & what you need for him to do for you to be happy, now make sure you let him know if its not resolved you will report them to the BBB. To a dealership that is very important they want to stay in the GREEN with customers. Let us know how it goes.

I don't know, that seems kind of weird to me. A factory producing a dash that is discolored? They don't produce just one dash, obviously. That would mean there would be potentially thousands of dashes with the same problem, and I don't think they would do that.

I bet that you got a "new" dash that is not so new. It was probably one that they removed from another Fit for whatever reason, or off of a salvaged Fit. I think you're getting the run around.

Obviously, I think you should go back. If it were me, not only would I go back to the dealer, but I would go to the next closest dealer and ask to speak with a service manager. See how they react to the story and pictures, and see if they'd be willing to help you out. This story is getting way out of control, and it's all the dealer's fault.

well since he has a gd, the dash may have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere.. if a dealer was installing used parts and saying that theyre new theyd be in deep doo doo fast.. besides, at cost, the dash doesnt cost all that much, especially compared to removing one from another car and installing it into another

and necos, yup warranty time sucks, you only get 5hrs to r/r dashboard from 04-08 TL..

The dealer could have also sent the car somewhere to repair the damage on the original dash & after they repair the plastic they have to buff it & if they don't buff it evenly there you go discoloration. So you might still have the original dash. Most dealerships have a side company that does stuff like paint touch up,engine detail, bumper painting etc etc.
