doubt it fell off because of being at 60lbs. that's still pretty high torque. some toyota wheels are torqued to 65lbs

I agree to an extent. Yes, the lug nuts can stay in place (depending on application) being torqued that low but in my case they started slowly backing out as I drove. Eventually breaking a stud and causing the remaining three lug nuts to shear off the studs.

As I was looking for a spot to check things out, I seen the lug nut with the stud inside shoot by the window. Once it shot by, all I could do was prepare to bail.

I'm going to be picking up a new set of torque wrenches soon because of this and have the checked for accuracy. This torque wrench I lasted used will be destroyed pretty soon... just need to find my video camera, sledgehammer and an oxygen-acetylene rig with a cutting torch attached.

 

Why not just calibrate the one you have?

 

Because it failed and failure is unacceptable. The torque wrench must go the way of the general that crossed Dart Vader....NECK PINCH TO TOTAL DOMINATION FTW!

 

Hootie, don't think you mentioned it but what kind of torque wrench did you use - click, needle, digital?

 

Ya I would give it a viking funeral after that too. Just to make an example for all the other tools in the garage so they know whats up.

 

Removed crappy gold spray paint off these Rota Circuit 8s I got for cheap. Then installed them on my car.

I am a HUGE fan of bronze wheels but those are beautiful. I would clear coat them just to keep them tidy and prevent possible corrosion

 

I love that wheel style... I'd polish the hell out of them and then have them powder coated with clear.... Polished aluminum looks better than chrome plating. It's not as shiny but more like silver jewelry with whiter color than chrome....

 

Thanks. Since I only removed the paint from the visible sides of the wheel, powdercoating them clear would mean, I would have to take the tires off and removing all the rest of the paint too. I'm not all too worried about corrosion since southern California barely sees rain. I wanted to spray them clear but was afraid of getting the nasty yellow faded color from being out in the sun. So for now, I am going to wax and keep them clean. It'll just mean more elbow grease and care. Maybe I will paint them bronze correctly later on. I paid $240 for these rims and tires so I'm happy so far

It was a click type. I ALWAYS check the torque 3 times after the initial click. I'll be looking at another click type or maybe even a digital type if I can find a good one for a reasonable price.

Yeah i torqued it to spec, but I didnt replace the bolts.

 

Put a DME header on (thanks dled1286), put an exhaust on (thanks JDM Chirs & Skunk2), and installed a Progress rear sway bar (thanks Sam Misled). The lower shock bolt was rusted solid into the shock bushing on one side, so I'm going to have to cut the bolt off and replace the bolt and the lower bushing next week.
