Goodbye Fit, Hello Odyssey

With a baby on the way (tomorrow), my wife and I needed something with more room. I will really miss my NBP '07 Fit Sport Manual. Traded it in for an '02 Odyssey EX with 100k miles. The Ody has more miles, but appears to be better maintained than my Fit was.

I bought the Fit new in April of 2006, and kept it until yesterday at 78,000 miles.

Possible problems that I sold with the car:
-Original clutch went out at 34000 miles, and I felt I was on borrowed time before the second clutch was going to go.
-Second set of front brake pads needed replacing, and rotors were a little warped.
-Check Engine Light was on for a failed O2 sensor, which I have simply neglected for about 11 months. Car drove fine with the CEL, but I don't know what long-term damage I'd done to the catalytic converter.
-I had a new rattle develop two weeks ago with the exhaust system that would only occur at 4k rpm.
-Drivers-side front parking light burnt out 4 weeks ago.
-Something in the rear brakes would squeak when you lifted off the brake pedal. Same noise occurred when releasing the parking brake. SO annoying. It's been doing this for about 3 years, and I would always forget to have the techs look at it when I brought it in.
-Tons of rock chips in the hood.

Changes I had made on the car:
-USA Spec brand iPod interface.
-JDM armrest/console.
-Weathertech front floor liners.
-A-Spec intake and exhaust (removed and put back to stock. only had on the car for about a year--wife didn't like the noise)

Anyway, it's been a fun experience. I'll miss the gas mileage, the go-kart feel, and having a clutch pedal.

I guess I'll have to find an Odyssey web forum now :P

First of all, Congratulations on the new baby. What are you doing on the forum man. Must be a ton of other stuff - like a soon not to be pregnant wife. Bohoo on the Fit, you are now a parent - find the diapers.

Best of Luck to all.

Congrads on the baby. But if You bought the Fit new it seems you did not take good care of it. Or you just had a bad fit i have not seen some one have so many problem on there Fit. There are members on here that have over 100k with just normal maintance. Also does youre family not have two cars. Or is it just one for you and the wife. If you had two i would have the odyssey for the wife and you could have kept the Fit. I don't know how familys live with just one car. But like i said congrads on the baby that is much more important than a car is. Just seems to me the Fit should have been payed off or close to it with that many miles and you could have just kept it and got a odyssey.

Congrats on the baby! Hope all goes well for both Mom and baby. Sorry to hear about moving on from the Fit - the Odyssey is a nice vehicle my Uncle and Aunt just bought one and retired their Accord.

You have to catch car problems when they first rear their ugly heads or things go from bad to worse. If I have any issues, the car goes right to the delearship. You have to do the scheduled maintenance recommendations and you can be relatively problem free. Yes, somethings can happen unexpectedly but the normal things to keep a car on the road can be done to keep it running smoothly and problem free. That is the good thing about having a paid off car - you can put back a little each month for those repairs that will happen as the car ages. My Ford Ranger was 11 years old, never spent a night in the repair shop and I kept all the recommendation services up to date, changed my oil when it was recommended and it still ran great when I traded in for the Fit. Hope you don't regret trading in the Fit like I regret trading in the paid off truck. Of course I had no idea the Fit would turn into a show car on the weekends and not just a grocery getter! Enjoy!

Cat :x

Congrats! We have a 2003 Odyssey with 98k on it, we've had no issues with it.

New tires a couple times, and a brake job I think is all we've done other than normal maintenance. It's been a great kid (and rock/mulch/bike/plant/lumber/luggage etc) hauler, hope you have the same good luck with yours as we have. Same goes with the kid too, ours are getting old, enjoy it!

Thank you everyone for the congratulations

For those of you concerned with the problems on my Fit... I was very rough on it. My problems should not be considered normal. Although, this Fit did not hold up as well as my '00 Civic. I still think my old Civic was a stronger/better car.

Oh well. I miss both cars. Hopefully the Ody can bring us many good memories. We have plenty of road trips in mind!

Gearbox is original. I know it's a huge gamble with these Odysseys, but I had to take a chance. Have had it about 6 weeks now, so far so good. Just went on a nice 1500+ mile road trip and it was a godsend to have this van. Would not have been possible in the Fit.

This Odyssey is the quickest accelerating car I've ever owned too. :P So sad.

congrats on the new baby and new car.

those sliding doors are kickarse when you need to buckle up your baby in the rain/snow. cant wait till my 3yr old can get in/out from his seat and i can retire my GD and use my G as dd. at least that's the plan. my older kid already rides along with me on the weekends in my G.

Well congrats on the new purchase, but the closest I would own to a van is probably a Mazda5 5-speed or a VW Sportwagon. Have fun with the new (used) car.

Congrats on the baby! I have 2 kids and have found the Fit to be a great family car. My wife drives an H3 and I can "fit" twice the ammount of gear in my Fit than the H3 could ever wish to carry.

Congrats on the new baby, and you went from a car that looks like a van, to a van... at least you still own a Honda.
