clutch issues!

My clutch is pretty much done. I've put 135k on my 08 fit. I was hoping to get a little more than that. What is the normal life span for a clutch on these cars?

I do alot of highway driving. Is it worth looking at changing to a 6MT?

Any idea what it will cost me to have a new clutch installed?

so just a quick update. I went back to the dealer to see if anything would be covered in my warranty. They said maybe but they couldn't tell without taking it apart. It will cost $800 labour just to take it appart. If it is defective they will cover all labour and all parts. If not I am responsible. What do I do?

I am not hard on the car. I drive alot but don't abuse it. Mixed highway and city, but no racing or burnouts. The service manager said there is a good chance it is defective but can't guaranty anything.

Has anyone had a similar situation?

The dealer will charge me $2000 to replace it if they deem it to be wear and tear.

Here's what to do. Buy the new clutch and fly wheel, and take it to a tech college. Heres why. Students don't do the work, an ASE serviceman (TEACHER) will do the work while the students take notes for there grade. All you need to do is buy the parts. They are not aloud to charge you for labor. How do I know this? I have been doing that for a long time.

My clutch was gone after 34000 miles on my '07 and the dealer didn't do jack. I paid for the whole thing. I think it was around $1400 after I bitched at them, but still.

135k on a clutch is not undue wear&tear. save your dealer 'inspection' fee.

Do however, look for a good independet shop to R&R the clutch.. Just a clutch replacement isn't much over $500, if that. Any skilled mechanic can look at the replaced and related parts clutch and tell if it was defective. At 135k I doubt it's a defective clutch..
There's no extra inspection needed.

if that's the original clutch and you have 135k miles there is no chance at all that the dealer would replace it under warranty. they are lying to you.

Thanks for the help! I did end up going to the dealer and of course they said it was wear and tear so I had to pay for it. But before I took it in I got them match prices with a local shop so I didn't get ripped off!

learn how to heel and toe and dont drag race.
adjust your driving so u dont have to launch uphill, etc
that should be good for at least 250,000km

i was sad that i had to replace a fine clutch at almost 200,000km. i only changed it because of other tranny work and it was stupid not to change it with the tranny apart
