Just bought a 2003 Fit imported from Japan into the Bahamas, with 55k kms (33k miles). Haven't found an answer to these questions by searching these Forums or the Web:

1. Is ATF-Z1 the recommended automatic transmission fluid, as it is for later Fits?

2. Is the oil filter the same one used in later Fits and other Hondas?

Would be most grateful for answers and for any other suggestions for a newcomer (I'm a mechanical engineer and the car is in a remote Bahamian island with rudimentary mechanics and no code readers).

1. Chances are you have the CVT (belt and pulley drive) if your Fit is imported from Japan. Don't use ATF-Z1 for that; use Honda CVTF (CVT fluid) instead. ATF-Z1 is for conventional automatics. They updated the GD Fit/Jazz owner's manual in 2006 around the time of the minor model change for this.

2. Yep should be no problem. Although there's a specific SKU or part code for the Fit/Jazz oil filter, I've used filters meant for other Hondas without incident.

 

Was it that much cheaper to get one from japan instead of one from the states.
