Transmission Fluid

Hello all,

I have a 2004 VTEC Fit with a CVT. The car was handed down to me by my family who, quite frankly, didn't treat it very well.

Now that I need to change the transmission fluid, I found out that there are three available brands that claim to support my car:
- Honda's CVTF
- Mobil1 CVTF
- Total CVT fluid (Honda Multi-matic)

I'm ok with the current performance of my car (which I'm guessing is using Honda's CVTF). However, due to the huge price difference between Honda's fluid and other brands (60% more expensive) and the fact that other brands are promising a lot more than Honda, I am wondering if anyone has tried these brands and can give me some feedback or advice.

Thank you

Promises are just that: Promises.

To ensure normal, proper operation, I'd "go with what you know" and stick with the Honda stuff. Can you get OE cheaper off 'Fleabay' or an Internet dealer in the UAE?

No experience with Jazz CVTs, but with the USA automatics, aftermarket fluids work for a while but often cause issues prematurely.

My philosophy is, by doing the fluid change myself I'm STILL saving money over letting a shop do it (even with aftermarket fluid). Plus I'm "treating" my Honda to the Good Stuff.

I agree with this. Do the change yourself for cheap. Try to get Honda stuff, it's best for long life of the transmission.

I heard CVT fluid is always more expensive so you could find another brand that doesn't claim to improve performance with additives. Those are usually the problem according to Honda.

Carbuff is not wrong. However, if you have time, you could join a site like Bob Is the Oil Guy dot com, and increase what you know. Doing so will give you more options to stick to.

I, myself, have been using Honda MT fluid in my manual '13, but I wouldn't mind finding something even better. When I have time, I intend to do more research on it.

Note 1: Honda is a car manufacturer, not an oil products company. They have changed (improved) their house brand MT fluid over the years, and they may do it again if necessary.

Note 2: Many folks here let price be the deciding factor in car maintenance, but I never do. New oil is cheaper than a new transmission.
