Hey y'allz.
I've got a 2007 Fit Sport MT w/ 245K miles on it. Had the AC condensor and fan replaced a couple months ago, and now it seems the compressor has failed. This isn't work I can do myself, but I have a pretty reliable and honest shop in my neighborhood so I had them give me an estimate. They said they'd need to replace the compressor AS WELL as the condensor that was just replaced because a new compressor will ruin an old condensor right off the bat. Accurate?
They gave me a quote of $1800 for the whole job, pretty much replacing every component in the AC system. How much of this is really necessary? I'm gonna shop around for reman. parts depending on what's really necessary.
Thanks for any feedback. And yes, I'm a courier. That's why all the miles. I hope to get at least 400K out of it.

 

Here's a quick update. A new OEM condensor can be found on Ebay for $100, and a junkyard compressor with low miles can be gotten for even less than that.
So rather than the $1200 for parts, it's $200.
Not sure if this is because it's December, but it is what it is. A grand in my pocket.

 

I'd get a second quote. I'm sure they are concerned that while the old compressor was failing it was probably adding metal shavings to the a/c system. And actually the old condenser could ruin the new compressor due to the possible presence of the aforementioned metal shaving in the system. There is a filter built into the side of the OEM condenser but I don't know if it can cope with that debris. I'm sure there are shops that will install used parts but don't be surprised if your local guy doesn't want to do it. I hope my ramblings makes sense because I'm really tired...
