Smile My Battery died today!

Hi folks, been a mechanic for 21 years and my Battery in my Fit 2007 died on me today. I looked at the brands and replacements for the OEM battery. So here’s what I know and what I found out about the battery in my Honda fit:

OEM Battery is a (44B19L-S), Genuine Honda part: 31500-SNC-00100M, It has 340 cca, is lead acid, size mesure 7 3/8 inch Long X 5 1/4W X 8 1/4H (Without battery post, add ¾ inch for the post height) post positive is 3/4inch diameter and negative is about 1/16 inch smaller, from what I measured at -20 in my backyard with my frozen fingers.
The group size is 151R and it’s made by YUASA-Exide, they are the only one who makes that group size by the way if you’re wondering.
A group size 51R, depending on the Brand should fit in there, it is usually longer then the OEM by about 2-3 inches. You will need to trim the plastic basket and probably modify the post cables depending on the models.

For my needs, living in a very cold place I need the highest CCA to crank the engine.
I looked at AGM batteries that are my first choice, I have and odyssey in my truck and left it parked for several weeks and never had any issues with it.
Here’s what I found:
Odyssey PC680 220CCA AGM
Optima D51R 450CCA AGM
Powermaster XS D5100R 685CCA AGM

The rest of them not sure if they are lead acid or AGM
Deka ETX18L 330CCA
SVR 50-12 Audio Series 600CCA
Stinger SPV35 438CCA

The important thing to know when you buy a battery is that they have a shelf life, depending on the kind and size, the fabrication date is on it, and during this life period the seller has to recharge it, I think its every 6 months or so and they usually put a sticker on it with the date it has been charged. From what I saw, the places that offer the best warranties on batteries have the oldest ones.
So tomorrow, I’ll get the Optima D51R, for the good price I found and if it’s not older then 1 ½ years.
Feel free to add your findings in here and its good to say about the modifications involved.
I hope this will help

So I did put my Optima Battery in and I can tell you that it is a tight fit. any longer and it would not fit in the hole unless you do major mod.
I had to trim both side of the plastic basket and discard the OEM plastic cover cause it won't fit on a longer battery. I put a little piece of steel wire to shim the posts and it works like a charm!
I'm very satified.

I had the battery on my 2007 die earlier, and the dealership replaced it because it was under warranty (3 years). I have the GPS tracker on it (which I think that the company that sold it has gone out of business, but that's another story), and I think that somehow that's killing the battery, as we don't drive it every day.

I may end up mounting the battery in the back of the car, and using a "big boy" battery, instead of the lawn mower battery that's factory.
