Alternator/Intake Manifold

Can anyone confirm if the intake manifold must be removed to replace the alternator?

No you do not, I think you are looking at the manual for the JAZZ, I removed mine by removing the top bracket, then from underneath with a long extension I got the bottom bolt. I did this to install the unorthodox alternator pulley.

no u reach the bottom bolt from the bottom of the car looking upwards. Then the alternator u can wiggle it out from the top of the car. Just letting u know it is a bitch.

To make it 100% easier, yes if u remove the intake manifold it will come out easily.

hah. alright, thanks for the tip.
i'll probably just take out the intake manifold.
i'm going to give this company another try to put in a h/o alternator from Honda Fit High Output Alternators. my amplifier drained my battery to death. i've been carrying around a jumpstart kit to start my car and finally i just took the fuse to my amp out. hopefully this alternator is strong enough to support my 1000w amp :\

I actually looked at a manual that mechanics have at NTB, and yes it requires you to remove the intake manifold, i just replaced my alternator 2 weeks ago.

It's easier to just take off egr valve then unbolt the egr studs... Took me about 15mins to pull out the alternator....

I looks like its one of those cases where you dont NEED to remove the intake manifold but doing so makes the job so much easier.

^Agreed. I replaced my alternator a couple weeks ago using the method shown in the video. Getting to that lower bolt on the alternator was a huge PITA. Hell, any kind of work in a cramped engine bay like that is a PITA.

It's not too bad if you use the u-joint socket. I use a deep socket 12mm and the u-joint. Then I use two extensions to loosen the bottom bolt without going under the car.
