Auf Wiedersehen to the Fit Nutt

Hey guys! It has been a great ride, but it is time to leave my fellow Fit freak friends. I'm trading my Fit today on a 2012 VW Jetta GLI. Quite a departure from my normal Honda/Toyota/Scion vehicles of past, but I'm ready to see what German engineering has to offer. I know that it will probably not be as reliable, but that's what warrenties are for, right? (never had to use one on my Hondas )

Anyway, Auf Wiedersehen!

Did you research the new VW before you bought this one? I LOVE German cars but VW quality has declined ALOT. They are getting a little better though they went from below average reliability to average reliability for 2012. What made you choose the Jetta over other small sedans?

Yep, I am aware of the quality issues, but I thought I would take my chances. I tend to baby my cars so I'm hoping to not have any major problems.

I did do my research and the GLI was the only car that met everything that I was looking for. Sporty, 4 door, room for 4 adults, turbo, seats comfortable on long trips, telescopic steering column, semi-rare, fun to drive, but yet still practical. The GLI was the cheapest, dealer gave me 10,500 for the Fit and 0.9% APR for 48 months on the financing. I'm paying close to $60.00 a month less on the GLI than I did on the FIt. Granted the Fit was paid for, but it just didn't fit (excuse the pun) my 6'0" long legged frame. I could never get the seat/steering wheel relationship to be comfortable. (either too far to reach steering wheel if I had the seat back, or legs to cramped if I had it up to have comfortable reach on the steering wheel).

I contemplated a WRX (more expensive and too hard to find in base trim) and even had money down on a BRZ (way too small and impractical). I don't like the Civic Si anymore. I don't do Mazda or American, so doesn't leave many to choose from.

I am hoping for the best with the GLI and looking forward to modding a turbo car. This thing has the potential for 50+ HP gains just with a Stage 1 ECU flash. Now that will be a few years down the road...going from 109 to 200 HP is plenty of a jump for now. Wish me luck!

I wish you luck sir. I hope VW has corrected the quality issues cause they really are excellent cars when they dont give you any problems.

Nice car. The Jetta is very rare over on this side of the Atlantic as we prefer the Golf and other hatchbacks over sedans.
