Airbag Fault...200 miles out of warranty.

Preface:
* I have a 2007 Honda Fit Sport Manual Trans.
* First owner.
* No accidents.
* Bought HondaCare 6yr/100K extended bumper to bumper warranty.
* My car just passed 105,230 miles.

So I live in Chicago, I've hit a lot of unpainted speedbumps, moon-crater-sized-potholes and metal construction sheets over the years. I even skidded off the road in the way from Colorado to Chicago going through a heavy Arkansas winter.

What surprised my then was when I was pulling up to a stop sign at an intersection where they were doing road work and I had to drive over one of those 4'x 8' steel sheets that about 1 1/2" thick. At first I tried to just coast over it but my little rollerskate wheels (205/45-16) simply stopped abruptly and pushed me back. So then I gave it a little gas and plopped up and over the sheet. I get through the intersection and look down at my dash and what do I see? The airbag warning light lit up.

What the heck guys?

Took it to Honda and they said it would be $114 to just look at it.

They looked at it for almost 2 1/2 hours and could not figure it out. So I will have to bring it back. (or go someplace else)

Thoughts?

I'm so frustrated. Maybe it's time to get the Recaros and the Sparco wheel? haha ....

Hmmm...reset the dash lights? I wasn't able to pull a code on he scanner I was using but Honda pulled two codes for the airbags on their scan tool.

Would unplugging the battery for a while and reconnecting it perhaps help reset the system?

there was a recall on the airbags, something about moisture getting to the harness that runs under the driver foot. Maybe woth looking into?

yeah, no idea how to reset them. Nissan's are easy you just had to hold the key in for a few seconds while pressing the break. what codes did they pull?

I thought by law, car manufacturers were required to provide a 5 year warranty on seat belts and airbags. But I can't find any info on that. Maybe I'm mistaken

I had a 6yr 100,000 bumper to bumper. So even with the 5yr I'm a little out of that.

I'm hoping they can help me out, this is a serious problem.

According to the tech, I have no driver or passenger front airbag.

UPDATE: Went in to have Streater-Smith Honda in Conroe, TX give it a look.

They have determined that the culprit is a "spring" that controls the horn/airbag. Wasn't exactly clear on how that became damaged etc but they assure me that it is what's causing the code. Labor and Parts came out to ~$350.

Will know by tomorrow afternoon if things are good. THEN I'm droppin her off to get the SI Seats installed booyaaahhhh!!!!!!
