260 Watts OK for 2008 Fit?
Hi
I'd like to put two 130 watt driving lights on my 2008 Fit. Does anyone have an idea whether that would be too much for the alternator?
I don't have any other electrical draw except for the factory supplied equipment and wouldn't run the A/C while the lights are on.
I'm doing this to provide long-range light on a long, straight, dark piece of highway I drive daily. One with lots of elk, pronghorn and mule deer.
Thanks,
DC

260 watts = about 20 amps
alternator output about 80 amps
stock lights about 120 watts = 10 amps
Item that should be confirmed is the amp capacity of the headlight wiring, doubling the amperage draw is enough to cause concern. Auto manufactures don't put in any heavier gauge wire than is needed. Every penny counts when building a car and copper is expensive.
I'm guessing the fuse will also have to be replaced.

Success
"Moose lights" successfully installed.
I installed two 130 watt off road lights using this kit:
Lights « Daylighter « Daylighter 130 Watt Long Range Stainless « KC HiLiTES: Auxiliary Lighting, Off Road Lights, HID Off Road Lights, Fog Lights, LED Light Bars, Driving Lights, Light Bars, Wiring Accessories, Flashlights, Torches
I mounted them using a Lightforce Unibar - some drilling required.
Lightforce - Products
The car runs fine, but I don't use the AC with the lights to be safe. These lights reach much farther than the Fit high beams and help me see the critters out there!
THESE CANNOT BE USED WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC - IT IS ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL!
