Is there a brake issue after service at Honda garage?

Hi FitFreak readers!

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I've just had my Hondja Jazz 2006 (which I bought a few weeks ago), serviced at Honda in London, UK. This was a full service, including automatic gear oil change.

The brakes feel less "tight" now. Before they were more sensitive, and now you have to press down more.

Is this a case of the brakes were too "tight" and are now normal, or did they forget to do something.

I'd be grateful for some feedback here before I call the Honda dealership.

It's normal for brake feel to change a little bit over time (and rather suddenly if they are serviced), but most commonly it would get firmer after service, not less firm. If you're worried, I'd call them up, or maybe bring the car back and have someone at the dealership take it for a test drive to see what they think.

Was brake work part of the service they did?

Level 4 service, the full whack. Car is 69,000 miles and 7 years old when I bought it.

I've got 3 months warranty with the seller, so to check for potential problems I gave it a full service, which according to the schedule it needed.

If replacing the brake fluid was part of the service, you may need to have the system re-bled.

According to level 4, they looked at pads, calipers and drums, changed fluid, brakes needed bleeding as they have to to get new fluid to the wheel cylinders and then should have road tested. If air was still in system technician would have bled brakes again. Might show on tech's writeup. If previous owner over used brakes it would have triggered a sell that new owner a new set, to maximize the profit of the visit.;-) at least that's how they do business in this country.

Do not assume the tech would have bled the brakes a second time. He's paid for only one.
Your problem does appear to be air in the lines which will happen if the tech hurries. Take it back to the dealer and complain though I suspect he won't do anything. For free anyway.
You're best bet is a competent independent shop or learn to do it yourself - there are posts on here doing that. When properly done Fit brakes are rock hard when fully pressed.
good luck.

If the rear brake drums were removed (and the adjusting star-wheel backed off for removal, BUT NOT RESET) you could experience a soft pedal.

If the rear shoes were replaced as part of the service, your Jazz may require several brake shoe adjustments before the entire "arc" of the shoes works as well as before. This might take several thousand miles.

I'd bring the car back to the dealer and voice your concern, in any case.

Thanks for the replies.

I've booked a check up back at the dealership.
