Solenoid Circuit Problem

Solenoid Circuit Problem

My 2001 Honda Fit 1.3 GD1 has lit engine check, I checked with electrical diagnostics and got the error code 21 - 01 VTEC SOL 1 (FAILURE P1253)

Can anybody advice me what should i check and how?

First verify that your oil level in the oil pan is up to limits. (some have been caused simply by being extremely low on oil).

Next locate the solenoid right side of engine just below the engine cover on the right side (looking from in front of the car). It looks like an upside down silver 35mm film can with wires coming out of it. Disconnect and connect the connector a couple times to remove any corrosion on the pins them drive it and see if the MIL goes away.

If not remove the solenoid from the engine by removing the two bolts and clean with q tip and reinstall. Try it again.

If not replace the solenoid.
