Strange brake light problem

Hello,

2008 Fit Sport owner here.

Got pulled over by the cops and told off for a non-functional brake light (left hand side). Now the light itself works but does not illuminate when the brake pedal is pushed. The right hand brake light works just fine.

I have replaced the bulb but the problem remains. The only other thing I can think of is a fuse but if this was the case wouldn't both lights be affected, and wouldn't the left light be completely out?

Any suggestions/advice gratefully received...

I believe they are on the same circuit, so one fuse (#16, 10 amp). If the bulb is good, but isn't lighting, the problem most likely is the wiring. Since the fuse hasn't blown, that should rule out a short on the positive (12V) circuit. Look for a bad ground wire going from the bulb socket to the car. Also look at the socket itself to see whether it has become corroded.

When you say light works you mean the taillight correct? These are dual filament bulbs one for tail and another for brake. Sounds like the brake light filament is burnt. Just replace with proper bulb.
