Need Cheap Battery Tie Down

Hello All,

I just found that somehow the battery tie down of my 07 Fit is missing from one side and I need a replacement. I looked on ebay and found the whole tie down system for $20 including shipping, but I do not want to spend that much if anyone here knows of a cheaper place that sells parts. Does anyone know of such a place? Or do I even need the tie down since it is pretty cramped in there?

Also, is it usual for the terminals to slide on and off with ease or should I see if they tighten?

Thank you for the assistance!

Anthony

Bernardi (bernardiparts.com) has the hold down rods listed for $3.50. It appears that the two sides are slightly different lengths, so you'd want to make sure you get the proper one. A local dealer could probably supply the rod for less than $20, too.

Alternately, it looks to me as though it would be straightforward to make a workable one out of a length of threaded rod of an appropriate diameter. Just trim to length, bend one end to suit, and stick a nut and washer on the other end.

The battery hold-down is a safety device; it helps prevent the battery from shifting around and shorting out in an accident or bad bump. It's obviously not an essential part of the car, in that the car will drive just fine without it, but it's definitely something I want to have in place on my own car.

The connectors should not slide off the battery posts. They have bolts running horizontally through the terminals to tighten them around the battery posts; cinching down on these bolts some will generally solve that problem; if not, it may be necessary to put a shim in between the battery post and the connector. Shims are available from auto parts stores, etc.; or a bit of sheet copper cut to size would work. A loose battery connection can cause strange behaviors and/or trouble starting the car.

Bungee cords are a couple bucks or maybe free in your garage.

Hope so, because you don't want a false sense of security with a battery retainer that stretches.

Batteries are very massive.
