'08 Fit, tell me about 17" wheels, stock height

(I apologize ahead of time if this has been asked before, however, I can't seem to find an answer to my very specific stock height, 17" GD wheel question.)

Hi all, I'm fairly new to Fit ownership. I picked up a sweet '08 GD Fit base, 5-speed, in November. I'm absolutely LOVING it!

It still has the stock 14" steel wheels and it's new tire time. I'm interested in going to 17" wheels. IMPORTANT: I'm going to keep the stock ride height (I really like the dropped look, however, it's not as functional for me personally.).

So, my question is: What size 17" wheel, offset and tires will fit on a stock suspension height GD Fit? I want NO rubbing. And if anyone has pictures, please include!!

Many thanks, and thanks for the Fit Freak community!

205/40/17 is the same diameter as stock, so as long as you keep the offset reasonable (+40 is popular offset for FWD wheels and would work fine) you will be good to go. Lots of tires in that size too.

Keep in mind depending on wheel weight you may lose some fuel mileage and you may lose some ride comfort due to short sidewall tires.

^^ Wanderer pretty much hit the nail on the head.

For sure, you'll be wanting to run a 205/40R17 tire for the same reasons mentioned.

Wheel spec wise, you'll be wanting to look for something between 6.5 to 7 inches in width featuring an offset of +42 (or numerically higher) if you'll be running this at stock height. The reason I mention +42 as a guide point is most of the GD generation ('07 & '08 US/Canada) Fits can clear +42 offset wheels easily with 205s and no modifications at stock height... BUT, once you go to a numerically lower offset like +40 or even +38 offset wheels you could start experience minor clearance (IE - tire rub) issues.

Anyway, just to recap and clarify if there is any confusion...

You'll want to be looking at a wheel the size of either 17x6.5 or 17x7 with an offset of +42mm or numerically higher. Tire wise, you'll want to be looking for specifically a 205/40R17 just like Wanderer mentioned.
