My manual car came with an auto ECU...
Yeah, so the previous owner of my car had to replace her ECU (I forget the reason) and accidentally got an automatic base model ECU. I have the Canadian LX model with cruise control and A/C.
Obviously, several codes for the automatic transmission were light up, plus I got the occasional surging idle. I also consistently got bucking/hesitation when revving up to 5000 RPM. I suspected the coil packs/plugs and maybe the EGR needed cleaning and valves needed adjustment.
A senior honda tech at the local dealership told me over the phone that these problems would not be caused by the auto ECU and that it would be no problem to run the car with it, as long as I didn;t mind the CELs. Well I did mind them...so I bought a used manual ECU for my car and had the dealer program it and now it seems I have NO PROBLEMS anymore!
Also my A/C seems to work and I haven't tried the cruise control yet but I suspect that works too. My car is now officially problem free, until it rains again and a new water leak appears!
So I doubt many people will encounter this problem but in the rare chance that they do, they probably will WANT to get the proper ECU first before changing anything else.
...and now the B1 service light is on...
