Separate Key and Remote?

I called up this guy before if I could get a separate key from the remote and he said that it's not possible since the fit requires one combination of the key and remote in one housing.

Is it possible to have them both separated from each other?

I have not done it but when I had a duplicate key made by my local locksmith, he asked me if I wanted the chipped key separate from the remote or all in one. I got the all in one. Honda may not offer it but I think if you stop by a decent lock shop you could get one made. You may have to wait for a couple of days while he orders in the correct blanks.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know why the locksmith I called said it wasn't possible. I guess he just wants to go but what Honda would do.

I use a Keyport Slide and you'd send your key/remote in, then they'll take the immobilizer chip into the Keyport's slot, then have your key as a blade insert. The remote is now separate and functions perfectly fine!

No thanks. I'm not sending my key to anyone unless I can wait an hour for them to do it right in front of me. And besides I want that OEM key fob.
