85k Maintenance Interval

Hello all,

I just bought an '08 Fit with appr. 85k miles. Everything seems in order and the owner gave me a pretty substantial record of his servicing.

He had a mechanic mention replacing the serpentine belt on the engine soon.

Are there any things that jump out to you guys relatively quickly about things I need to be aware of for the vehicle and its current milestone? I just found the owner's manual here on the site so I will scour that over, but any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Spark plugs were replaced recently, oil/battery/tires i.e. basics. Everything looks pretty good but I'm just thinking in terms of preventative maintenance. I have an '07 Elantra also and I've actually had to do very little preventative maintenance and I'm hoping the Fit will be the same way.

Thanks for reading.

Maybe coil packs in the near future? 3rd gear sensor if an automatic, other than that basic universal stuff like brake pads/disks, etc., the car'll be fine.

Hi Mike thank you for the reply. I was just reading about someone else mentioning coil packs in a different thread. I will look more into those.

I need to find out more about the key and the chip inside because I only received one key from the seller and it did not come with the tagged information for the code (does that make sense?). I don't want to be stranded if I lose the key or it isn't recognized by the ignition.

Go to a dealer for keys. They may require proof of ownership. Shop around as the keys are expensive.

Question: Is the "GD" vs the "GE" a reference to the VIN? I realize that they are also a generational thing, and since I have an '08 I'm trying to figure out which that I have. I believe it's 1st gen though, since my VIN includes "GD".

If you're in the US, the generations are GD = 07/08, GE = 09-13 and GK = 15+.

If your VIN includes GD, your car is a GD.

For easier reference, the orange car in my signature is a GE, the other two are GD's.

I would check the state of your brake fluid. If it looks like Apple juice its good. If it looks more like olive oil it could be getting old. I'd also change the transmission fluid.

You can check the parking brake adjustment by raiding the rear wheels and spinning them. With the brake off there should be no drag whatsoever and with the brake on on click, there should be moderate drag felt.
