2007 Fit Sport / GD/ AC works intermittently; shop says....

At this point in time my A/C works 95% of the time. That being said, I decided to get it looked at. The shop says the clutch is working intermittently and that the compressor needs replaced as well.

Does that sound legit?

Both are quoting me at approximately 1k, which sucks to say the least!

I was reading on one of the threads yesterday that a salvage is better than a cheap new one due to better seals/vales/etc.

thoughts? agree ? disagree?

I am trying to save money but also want the damn thing to work. Im a greedy SOB i want it all!

The timing of this couldnt be any better as I am getting ready to drive 2600 miles across the country in about a month and a half, and also need a new radiator!!!

If someone can point me to any good replacement parts on ebay currently it would be appreciated. not sure whats the best option to go with?

thank you for time and input

Hard to say if its a compressor issue or an electrical problem. I don't understand what you mean by 95% of the time. Did you need to have the system charged at all?

95% means that most of the time, the air comes out cold. however it has happened to me once and my girlfriend 2x that when driving, cold air stops and hot air comes out

My wife's 09 CRV is having the same issue. They charged the system with more refrigerant but it didn't help. We were quoted $600 to $1200 based on whether it was the clutch or compressor. Those are the two things they said it might be. So what your shop is saying does sound in-line with what we're experiencing and the cost too.

Our A/C issue seems to be worse when its really hot outside like low 80's or above. We just took a 3 hour drive to Lake George and it worked half of the way up and the entire way down and it was cooler.

It's just weird.
