Accessing duct behind heat unit

Hi,

My '08 Fit's HVAC mode control stopped working, so I checked the cable on it and it was indeed broken. I changed the cable, but then it broke again and I found that even moving the white thing on the other end by hand was hard, like something stuck in the flap mechanism.

Finally, even moving it by hand stopped working so I want to get in to that duct to see what's jamming it up.

How do I get back there? Can I access it by pulling the head unit or do I have to remove the whole dashboard?

Thanks

I'd start by removing the headunit and the glovebox to get a look at what is going on back there.
