End of the Road

Sad goodbye to the best car I've ever owned. A friend was driving it and emergency swerved into a parked car. Crushed the front end, even snapped the block at the motor mount. Nobody injured in the slightest. All four doors open and shut fine. No killer airbag injury. Sturdy and safe it was.

I was one of the first to have a GD3 in the area, drove this one off the showroom floor. Never had to do anything for this car beyond routine maintenance. Many coats of wax and care. She was a good buddy and the perfect car for my teenager.

I'm sure the insurance company will give me something like 60% of what it will cost to replace.
but there are some decent GD3s out there for sale...

Sorry to see that
Most cars with damage like this are totaled; in any cases the power train has to be removed to fix the body, which adds up labor cost, plus in your case the engine block is damaged as well.
On local junk yards I saw third car damaged like this (but the coils are removed already by yard people)

So glad to hear no one was injured, but sorry for your loss.

I was in the same boat as you, when in mid-January of this year, someone decided to run a red light at high speed. T-boned my GD3 (147K, 5MT) in the left front quarter panel. I got away with scrapes and contusions, but it could have been much worse if they hit the driver's side door instead of the quarter panel - probably wouldn't be typing this now, as the vehicle that hit me was a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan.

I spent the next couple weeks searching GD3's, GE8's and GK5's, the latter both new and used. As much as I wanted something close to my GD3, most of the cars I looked at were either rebuilders, or priced too high for their mileage. In the end, I went with a new '16 LX/CVT. This from a guy whose previous seven cars were all MT. Go figure.
