Said Bye-Bye to the Fit this weekend...

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge and experiences. These forums are priceless an saved me a ton of headache along with some $. Carmax offered me high trade in for my smelly, dented, hail damaged, exhaust leaking, bald tired, busted front end baby and we've said good bye.

Thanks again!

I am thoroughly shocked that Carmax would buy anything like you describe. My dealings with them have been appalling. Anything minor, they'll give you $100 for your car. Oh, and let me try to sell you one for many thousands over what everyone else is selling them for. I don't get Carmax at all.
What did you end up buying to replace the Fit?

Do you ever stop telling people to buy 2018 Fits? Ugh.

Congrats on the sale, my experiences with CarMax have been VERY similar to BurntZ's, I'll never set do business with them.

Might go test drive stuff there to waste their time, but yeah, not spending a cent.

I've sold three vehicles to Carmax. Always what I expected. KBB price for average or a little better. Bought an explorer at the auction, drove it for 3 months or so and sold it to Carmax for $2500 more than I paid.

Carmax is for people who don't like to haggle. KBB average for trade in value and KBB retail for what they sell.

Usually, the only downside is that in Illinois if you trade to the dealer, you only have to pay taxes on the difference. So if you sell to Carmax, and buy new you're paying tax on the full amount. Just went through this with my wife car. Carmax would give more but it was still a better deal to trade her car to the dealer. The tax savings outweighed the difference to selling for higher to Carmax.

I've sold three to Carmax. Instead of turning in a leased accord, I took it there and walked away with a check for $2500. I got high trade-in for my Odyssey that had 160K, a blown oil pump and every warning light on. I've never bought anything from them because they are overpriced. I got a $1000 more from them than the honda or toyota dealership offered.

I'm taking over our '12 Accord EX V6 and my wife picked out a (tries to mumble under his breath) pre owned prius from the Honda dealer we bought our last two cars from.

As far as haggling goes, I went to two local honda dealerships and one toyota dealerships and two said that the online price is the price, no haggling, and that I would be lucky to get more than low trade-in offered.
