CREE LED 9003 H4 headlight bulbs

Been looking at these for a while, wondering what your thoughts might be. Nice plug & play, compared to a lot of HID kits with rather sketchy installations and having to cut into your harness or modify lens housings. This looks pretty straightforward and totally reversible w/o cutting anything. Also, less heat than halogens. 80W CREE leds, 5 year warranty. Considering these, as halogens are OK at best and only good for 1 yr or so until one dies. Find them here:

save your money and stick with the halogens then. the problem with these led headlight bulbs are they do not focus the same as bulbs and the realistic outputs are poor/dismal.

I understand what you mean. I've heard they tend to scatter the light in a huge beam, instead of focused like halogens. Maybe eventually they will solve that problem. I have just the stock lens housings, this is a 2009 base Fit.

The way I understand it, the halogen has one filament which only has one point to scatter light. LEDs have multiple points that scatter light, however that doesn't get reflected properly by the reflectors.

That depends on how it's set up. it has to actually use multiple LEDs to make multiple points/light sources. Basically, it looked like corn.

In the case of the Cree that the OP listed, it actually has only one massive LED to create a single point/source. Correction, TWO LEDs... one for low beam and a second on the reverse side when you switch to high beam. The issue though, is it bright enough?

I might give it a try on my brother-in-laws Pathfinder. My Fit no longer uses H4 bulbs, so I can't try it there.

Not compatible with DRL, outdated 2nd gen vs current 5th gen

I have these installed on my fit, they were a gift from a friend. Obviously they are really bright, its amazing how much light power these led chips can put out. At stock aiming these bulbs light up the entire road, even the trees on the sides of the road and even the entire interior of the car ahead of you. When aimed correctly they function to still light up the distance fairly well but most of the light is thrown directly in front of the car, like fog lights.

Its up to you but here are my thoughts on these lights, my first thought is that since these are 2nd gen LED headlight bulbs with a cooling fan, they aren't worth it because there are newer 3rd and 4th gen bulbs with better LED chips and some don't require a cooling fan. Second thought is that since the DRL use the high beams at reduced voltage, there isn't enough power to keep these led lit and so they rapidly blink on and off with drl. So I'm forced to drive with my full headlights on in the daytime, which puts more wear on my marker lights and annoyingly dims the dash lights making them hard to read in the daytime. Thirdly the led chip so large on these bulbs that the OEM shroud, that acts to reflect the light back into the main reflector, isn't able to cover the entire led and so light from the led spills directly out and upwards. This is especially noticable in a parkade as they light up the ceiling quite well.

If you are so set on getting led headlight bulbs, maybe try the fifth gen bulbs, they are brighter and the bulb angle and position can be adjusted.

As mentioned, these scatter the light like PnP HIDs. If you want to upgrade your lights do a projector retrofit.

I installed my led headlight last week. The pattern is good. It isn't as sharp as the halogen bulbs which is fine with me. It's much more even. Glare isn't an issue even though they are much brighter.

I have the 4th gen both as H4 as headlights and H11 in fogs rated 6400 lumens for both. Used together they're great:

I pulled the fuse and disabled the DRLs so no flickering issues. If I need a drl function I turn on the driving lights, which are type A LEDs.

I converted the whole car to LED and I'm really happy with the results.

Would you mind sharing which exact 4th gen LED kit you have?

Pictures on a foggy night below. I even added LEDs to the reverse lights to be nearly as bright as the low beams. If the projector retrofit wasn't such a pain to do I'd invest into it. The LEDs would benefit from it, but they are considerably more bright than the stock halogens. The 2nd gen should be a similar result without the projector.

New Brights H4 LEDs are gone for me

Initially when I got the New Brights H4 LED kit I was pleased with them and they performed well. Until the first set started dying. Tried contacting New Brights (impossible) 3 times, finally went over their unresponsive heads to Amazon, who stepped up and got me another set. Which was even worse than the first set. One of the fans barely turned, and lo and behold, less than 2 months after replacing them, one died. I junked them for good.

I got a pair of OPT7 LEDs to replace the New Brights.

Amazon.com: OPT7 LED Headlight Bulbs w/ Clear Arc-Beam Kit - H4 (9003) - 80w 7,000Lm 6K Cool White CREE - 2 Yr Warranty: Automotive Amazon.com: OPT7 LED Headlight Bulbs w/ Clear Arc-Beam Kit - H4 (9003) - 80w 7,000Lm 6K Cool White CREE - 2 Yr Warranty: Automotive

What a complete difference in build quality and light output. The fans put some serious airflow through the aluminum heatsinks on these. They sound like tiny turbines when they come on. The NB's were practically nonexistent. The OPT7 chips are side-firing, slightly offset to achieve low/hi beams, and no dome diffuser over them. The driver ballasts are much smaller and lighter, and run much cooler then the NB drivers, which got disturbingly hot.

So far so good, beautiful light pattern and zero issues with install.

Are your OPT7 bulbs still working well? Any regrets? I'm thinking about getting them

Opt7 LEDs are the keepers!

Finally, a quality product not made with cheapo components. I would definitely buy the Opt7's again. Zero problems, they still look and work like new. Fans are quality and move lots of air. Beam throw is nice, road signs reflect well with no glare. Simple install, plug & play, no wiring to hook up.

I tried the OPT7 and found that they had significant glare issues... I ended up returning them. Read more here: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...ht-review.html
