Calling all aftermarket car audio knowledge
Audio Antenna Question
It's confirmed... I pick up my '09 Fit Sport w/nav, etc. by this coming Monday at the latest.
I have had XM Radio for 2+ years now, and can't really do without it. I don't know what Einstein at Honda decided not to offer satellite radio as an option, especially with the navigation option... but hey, that's just my personal logic.
Does anyone know if the stock antenna for the Fit nav/radio (on the top/back of the car) could serve a dual purpose and be used as the antenna for an aftermarket satellite system? I mean, the antenna actually looks like the type of antenna used for many included satellite systems on new autos these days. Not that looks has anything whatsoever to do with it.
My Chevy SUV/truck antenna is the shark fin-looking wedge so common on many higher-end GMs. Yet, my friend down the street has an '09 Equinox and an employee owns an '08 Pontiac Torrent, both of which have satellite radio antennas which look almost exactly like those on the Fit Sport.
Anyway, curious if anyone knows whether the Fit's nav antenna could also be used for aftermarket satellite (XM/Sirius) reception.
Thanks for any knowledge/advice!
Havin' a "Fit" here!

from my understanding of things, an antenna only picks up frequencies over the air (radiowaves i believe they are called) a device that uses satellite signal (like a gps or radio) would get the reception by an internal device. when you plug your xm into the headunit, you dont plug it in for reception, you plug it in so the sound comes out of your speakers... most headunits are "xm ready" but i dont know how youd wire it into your stock headunit...
Since GM owned a chunk of XM Radio before the merger, they had those particular antennas you referenced designed previously so they would incorporate their service along with regular radio. I think some regular radio is served by windshield antennas also.
Nope means get a sat radio antenna and fugettaboutit. I have searched for something that you could add to a factory radio and 2009 Fit owners are beat for the moment. Just checked the XM site and they skipped the Fit.
You'll have to yank your factory NAV and put a Kenwood or Eclipse in to have Sat radio.
