Question USB Problem

I have a USB thumb drive but it will not work on a 09 sport any ideas why not? I have another thumb drive that works fine and don't see any differences in the properties. Any help would be great.

Reformat it anyway, that almost always fixes it.

1. Open up "My Computer" on the desktop, you should see all your drives listed, find the flash drive you have attached, in the example below you see 2GB CRUZER. Right-Click this icon and choose "Format" from the list of options.

2. One the Format screen place a check mark next to Quick Format, and select the drop arrow for the "Allocation Unit Size" and try an alternate size like 8196 - 4096 or lower (*Note - if the only option is "Default Allocation Size", no worries this process should still work).

3. Verify the File system is FAT32, and click the "Start" button to format.

**Here is another drive I have connected to show a few of the Allocation unit sizes you may come across. Again, for the Fit USB - the lower allocation unit size is more likely to work:

I believe the 32GB Kingston USB in my Fit is actually set at 16k file allocation size - works like a charm.

Has anyone had the problem that it restarts at the first song on the usb when the car is restarted? it is really annoying. I am using a 16gb thunb drive so it is a lot of music.

Actually I do remember someone with the same issue. Unfortunately I can't find the thread or remember hearing back from them with a solution.

Long story short: It could be an issue with your USB thumb drive. Acquire another thumb drive, load some songs, plug it in and test. Alternatively you could try to reformat your existing drive using the methods described above. Although this may not resolve an internal hardware issue with your thumb drive or stereo, these are the quickest/easiest troubleshooting steps to take.

The only other cause I can think of is that your head unit USB output is malfunctioning and failing to supply the necessary voltage to sustain the drive info (less likely).
In theory, all flash drives are perfectly compatible with the Fit USB, however there do seem to be a few rare issues. Try the steps above and let us know.

Well I tried other USB sticks and they work fine. I think maybe it is the fact the usb stick is 16gb might be confusing it. The others are smaller and work like a charm.

No, 16gb will work just fine. I use a 32gb flash drive with no issues, many use much larger drives with no issue. I would suggest reformatting your flash drive using the steps outlined above (back up your data first).
