2009 Honda fit noise coming from head maybe??

Hi I just bought a 09 fit used about a month ago for 3900 with 132k miles it's been doing good till yesterday something is making a sound in the motor area sounds like it's coming from the top of the motor like a bell sound. I Google it and seen that Honda had a recall in 09 10 models for valve springs and lifter arms going bad causing engine noise. The car drives fine other then the noise. I will include a video it's not the ticking sound but the other sound u hear.

From the vid, the engine seems to be rocking a little more than what I see in my '11 Sport AT. Is the Check-Engine-Light (CEL) on? Is there any odor of gasoline in the engine bay when you start it up in the morning?

I know you said it sounds like a bell / metallic but could it be a whistle / air movement? Just wondering if a spark plug is loose.

I'm thinking loose spark plug also. If that blows (or blew) out of the engine you have a problem. This is a big problem with the Fit so you need to investigate ASAP as you might be able to avoid problems if you solve quickly.

There are several threads here to research. Stop driving now!

Did you recently take off anything intake side? Loose air boot or whatever?
your cars runnin pretty smooth besides

hold up a length of fuel hose or equivalent to your ear. Itll be your stethoscope. Then slather the engine in massage oil and listen like a cam girl.

Sorry to hear about this.

Do you have lemon laws in your state that allow you to return the car to the seller or force them to repair it?

At least you were able to tighten #2 before any obvious damage.

For #3 I would assume the threads in the head are stripped but you can inspect the plug. Then use your mobile phone camera to take pictures of the head. There are plenty of posts here on repair and replace options.

If you decide to replace the head I suppose that could cost over $1000 depending on the shop and labor prices in your area. Generally that is more than I would want to put into a $3900 car. Especially a car with an unknown history and a bad 30-day track record.

Right on! I truly hope that does it for you. Drive comfy, and if you have any similar issues, chime back in just incase theyre related. Oh, if you could post or PM me your vin, if youre comfortable with that, I'm still hoping to have an actual list of vins to bring to honda. Been quite some time and you'd be number 3 counting myself. I've got a lady friend in management at the local honda and she would get it to the right people. Also intend to use said information to verify the stock spark plugs (suzuka, sayama plants/year/month of assembly) for further verification of the claim.

I'd recommend checkin out those plugs again in a month or two just to see if they're loose.

The used a little bit of the blue Permatex paste on each plug once mine worked loose the second / third time ('11 Sport AT). From my records it looks like Nov 2014 and then used the blue paste June 2015. That was the last time I touched the plugs (approx 23,000 miles ago).

Puts, I had gas smell and loose number 2 (3?) cylinder also. Tightening it solved it, coil was dirty at base too, quite the job without taking the windshield cowl off first!

The noise sounds like a timing chain rubbing the side of the engine block, OR the bearings are bad in one of the pulleys. Remove the belt and see if the noise disappears.

l3igl3ang - People mis-diagnose the loose plug thing all of the time but it is often the 'root' cause of all sorts of poor performance (decreasing MPG) and the illumination of warning lights on the dashboard. In future, just do a quick check on the plugs, then, you can move on to look at other systems if the problem persists.

With mine ('11 Sport AT), I had decreasing MPG & increasing gasoline odors, then the CEL was on, then the "VSA off" light come on, which involves the ABS system. So, the CEL / "Misfire in #2 & #3" / loose spark plugs was the root cause of all of these other issues not the computer or a ABS wheel sensor, etc.
