Key Fob Drain On Battery?

My apartment is close enough to my carport that I can lock and unlock my Fit from every room in my place. My understanding is that having the key fobs close to the car when the car is not running will drain the battery.

1) Is this really a risk?

2) What could I put my fobs in when I am in the apartment? Would a steel pot with a lid be a sufficient insulator?

Come on, electrical engineering nerds. Chime in.

Thanks.

This is the fob you have to press a button on to unlock the car? Then it's not doing anything unless you press the button.

Even if it's the kind for remote keyless entry, I wouldn't worry about it. My car is more than 2 1/2 years old and I keep the key ten feet from my car and it hasn't been a problem. I recently replaced the battery on the fob but that's not really so terrible to have to do after 2 1/2 years.

I guess I was misinformed.

Thanks, Brain.
