2009 Fit clutch bearing noise ...

Well I was hoping it was the idler wheel bearing , but used my stethoscope and looks to be from the A/C . The A/C still works , and its just the pulley bearing , but you can't just buy the pulley ( the bearing is staked in, and is kinda a PITA ) So instead I got a reman clutch kit for $60 . I'll get to it soon and post some pics ad thoughts

Interested to know were you hearing a slight grinding noise whenever the ac kicked on? Mines doing the same. My AC will work fine for about 30 minutes then its just warm air. But i hear that slight grinding and am pretty sure its related

It's different then that

Mine is the bearing that's in the pulley , compressor on or off, doesn't make a difference . I could swear some days my A/C works way better then others though .

Sounds just like this one

Maybe sort of like a bad shopping cart wheel .

I found a reman compressor with the dryer and o rings for $230 online , that's my next step . I have the facilities available to me to evacuate and recharge AC . I would think replacing the compressor would be just as much time as the clutch

Where did you find the reman clutch? I was looking for one and could never find it.

I have the same exact noise and I had figured it was the ac bearing. I actually found a replacement bearing and was going to have a machine shop punch old one out but $60 for a new assembly is probably easier.

Ebay. There are new clutch kits there for $99 too . OEM ones online are $300 for just the kit , that's insane .

I have a press and a blast cabinet . as a project I may try and refurb the old one with a new bearing ( I saw bearings for like $12 )

Ended up just replacing the pulley ( bearing is pressed into the pulley )

Some tips
- buy extra snap rings , I managed to make mine work, but they should be considered single use .
- pay attention to the gap between the pulley and clutch , spec is .035-.065 mm . Have a feeler gauge before you start . This was my issue I thing I hammered the pulley on a hair too much and the clutch would not engage. I ended up taking out the shim and just got it to minimum spec .
- I did not have a clutch tool to hold the clutch while removing the nut. Air impact wrench spun it off fine 14mm with a wobble extension . Used oil filter wrench to tighten it back on .
