2012 power steering and radio

Last week my car would have the radio cut out, the power steering light would flash, and the steering wheel would lock up. Ran a diagnostic and nothing came up. It then worked fine for a few days but on my way home just now it did it multiple times. It seemed to happen more while stopped at a light or while slowing down to turn.

I know this happened a lot to 2007 Honda Fits, but I have a 2012 with less than 70K miles. Battery is just a couple years old, as well, and there is no corrosion. I’m bringing it to a shop tomorrow but with the previous clear diagnostic I wanted to see if anyone else had similar issues/any answers.

Sounds like something is loose.
If it was a battery terminal, the whole car should be acting up. The highest drawing on the system is right at startup and the starter doesn't operate properly.
Your situation sounds like something downstream of the main systems connections / fuses. I don't have a wiring diagram but I'd start at the first 'common' set of wires / fuses to both systems.

It sounds to me like it's a loose battery terminal. There is a post on this forum, with similar complaints of their radio going off and then back on for no apparent reason. A few owners posting on that thread ultimately found a loose battery terminal on their cars. When power goes off in a car with no fuses blown or circuit breakers shorting, and comes back on, it very well could be a loose terminal on the battery, or a bad ground from the battery to the frame or a loose positive battery cable connection at the starter.

Read the posts on this thread: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...gives-out.html

I would start by loosening the battery cables on the battery. Clean the battery posts with a battery cleaning brush, and then tighten the battery cables each until they are tight. Inspect the battery cable ends and make sure they are not cracked from over-tightening. Make sure you cannot twist the cable clamps/ends by hand. If this doesn't correct the problem continue by inspecting the neg battery cable where it bolts to the frame. Also check the pos. cable at the starter for looseness.

Connection

They also make a battery terminal protector that is sprayed on the terminals after cleaning them. It creates a oily film on the terminals and protects them from the air and acid that degrades battery terminals.
